DRILLING TO COMMENCE
ON URANIUM PROSPECTS AT KALABITY PROJECT, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Joint venturer
Western Plains Gold Ltd (ASX Code: WPG) has let a contract for a programme
of systematic bedrock RAB drilling in PlatSearch’s tenement EL 3297
“Kalabity” located near Olary in the Curnamona Province, South Australia.
The drilling is designed to further test two calcrete uranium anomalies
defined from a recently completed regional calcrete survey that covered the
entire 148 square kilometre area of EL 3297. The wide-spaced regional
calcrete sampling also defined several significant gold and base metal
anomalies that will be followed up with infill sampling to better define RAB
drilling targets during April.
One of the
uranium anomalous areas is situated along strike from the KR4 prospect where
thin davidite veins occur over a strike length of two kilometres. A bulk
sample of selected samples of davidite bearing vein material at KR4 assayed
3.46% uranium, 1.75% cerium and 2.75% lanthanum.
The Kalabity area is
considered to be prospective for vein-style uranium in Proterozoic basement
rocks. Although the area has been covered previously by airborne
radiometric surveys, recent alluvium over much of the area could mask the
radiometric response due to uranium mineralisation in the underlying
rocks. The location of the project area in relation to other uranium mines
and prospects in the Curnamona Province is shown in the accompanying map.
